The Chainsmokers release new track 'Somebody' with Drew Love
The Chainsmokers are spoiling us with new music this year. Since dropping ‘Sick Boy’ in January, Drew Taggart and Alex Pall have also released ‘You Owe Me’ (along with its surprisingly dark music video) and ‘Everybody Hates Me’. Now, the duo are back with another track which forms part of their Sick Boy EP.
Their latest offering is ‘Somebody’, featuring THEY.’s Drew Love. This is the first of their recent releases to feature another singer in addition to Taggart.
‘Somebody’ is a pop/RnB/EDM combo which talks about the struggle and importance of staying true to yourself whilst everyone else around you is focused on surrounding themselves with material objects.
Whilst Taggart is on vocal duty throughout the verses, Love delivers the captivating chorus which really hits home the song’s message.
In the town full of fancy cars and
Crowded bars and supermodels
Looks exactly the way it did inside my head
When I dreamed about it
All the things I could live without
I need ’em now ’cause they’re all around me
Only thing that I can’t afford is to lose myself
Tryna be somebody, somebody
An official video for the song has been released, in the form of an animation with illustrations from Molly Crabapple. Describing the video on Twitter, The Chainsmokers said: “It tells the story of temptation which we all deal with in our ways but often consumes us.”
Earlier in the week, The Chainsmokers celebrated receiving six nominations at this year’s Billboard Music Awards. They are nominated for top duo/group, top dance/electronic artist, top dance/electronic album, top radio song, top collaboration and top dance/electronic song.
